GMV helps to set up a Europe-wide platform for certification of cyber-physical systems

On 6 and 7 April Bilbao hosted the AMASS project kick-off meeting (Architecture-driven, Multi-concern and Seamless Assurance and Certification of Cyber-Physical Systems), which aims to create and consolidate a Europe-wide open tool platform for assurance and certification of cyber-physical systems (CPS) in diverse market sectors.

AMASS is a European Union H2020-ECSEL R&D project. ECSEL stands here for “Electronic Components and Systems for European Leadership”.

The project is being run by a Tecnalia-primed consortium of 30 partners from 8 countries, including the whole range of CPS assurance and certification stakeholders: OEMs, system integrators, component suppliers, system assessors, certification authorities, tool vendors, research institutes and universities.

Within AMASS GMV will be leading the Space Case Study “Design and safety assessment of onboard software applications in Space Systems”, which aims to implement part of the Operational Software of the Instrument Control Module of the Sentinel-3 mission responsible for global management of the OLCI (Ocean and Land Color Instrument) elements.

The ultimate goal of AMASS is to lower certification costs by means of a novel architecture-driven approach providing for multi-concern assurance and achieving seamless interoperability between tools. The benefit for society as a whole will be higher confidence in the dependability of the CPSs used for a wide range of applications in transport, manufacturing, healthcare, energy, defense, and communications.

The main domains of AMASS application will be aerospace, automotive, industrial automation, space and railway. .

AMASS will build on the results from previous successful EU projects such as OPENCOSS, SafeCer, CRYSTAL, CHESS and SESAMO

The Eclipse open-source community, through the PolarSys, initiative, will be playing a key role in setting up the AMASS community.
