Assessing how these heterogeneous resources can work together efficiently requires the ability to evaluate different concepts before they are implemented. The simulator, to be developed by the GMV teams in Spain and Poland, will provide ESA with a virtual environment where alternative system architecture configurations, operational concepts and planning strategies can be analysed and compared under realistic conditions. By reproducing the complete service chain - from observation requests to product delivery - it will help assess system performance, identify potential bottlenecks and understand the impact of different architectural and operational choices. The software will be delivered incrementally over the course of the project, allowing ESA to use progressively more capable versions in support of the ERS-EO architecture and definition activities. As the simulator evolves, it will provide increasingly advanced capabilities to explore future system configurations, analyse expected service performance and support informed engineering decisions. For GMV, the contract represents a significant strategic milestone. Being entrusted with the development of the programme's first end-to-end simulator places the company at the centre of the ERS-EO definition activities and reinforces its position in the development of advanced simulation and decision-support solutions for future European space programmes.
