The aim is to accelerate the uptake of digital technologies in areas such as personalized and precision medicine

The initiative is aligned with the company’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the European Union’s EU4Health program

Healthcare system digitalization, system interoperability, the adaptation of processes and procedures to new needs, personalized and precision medicine, humanization or artificial intelligence in healthcare, and the use of big data to set up federated data networks are some of the topics that will be addressed as part of this forum

The healthcare sector is in need of a full digital transformation, mirroring what has been done in other sectors of the Spanish economy. Aware of the wide range of stakeholders in this sector and the need to join forces to achieve this transformation, technology multinational GMV has set up the HealthTech Observer, a knowledge forum bringing together leading professionals in clinical and technological innovation and health, healthcare, and welfare research. The forum’s founding mission is to accelerate the uptake of digital technologies as tools for implementing patient-centered personalized and precision medicine, which is essential for the sustainability of healthcare systems.

This initiative is also in line with the company’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 3, which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages, and SDG 9, which includes key aspects such as the promotion of technology, innovation, and research. Likewise, in line with SDG 17, which encourages partnerships to achieve the Goals, GMV is taking part in numerous digital innovation and research projects in the healthcare field, applying breakthrough technologies, and networking with Spanish and European hospitals, universities, and research centers. It also shares the results of these initiatives in media and specialized publications.

Furthermore, it resonates with the EU4Health program, the European Union’s response to COVID-19, whose objectives include bolstering healthcare systems and making them more resilient and resource-efficient. To these ends, GMV is currently developing new digital healthcare solutions to aid prescription, monitoring, and decision-making, with a focus on omnichannel delivery and user experience.

More than two decades working for the healthcare sector

The HealthTech Observer is supported by renowned professionals in the fields of healthcare, research, and digital technology. It kicked off on 16 March with an event focusing on the benefits of intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) and its planning by means of GMV’s Radiance, a pioneering and unrivaled IORT planner. When used in conjunction with other cancer therapies, IORT can significantly improve the prognosis of brain, breast, and colon tumors, among others. The aim is to highlight the major benefits of this therapy for cancer patients in terms of survival and quality of life during treatment.

GMV has been working on research, development, and innovation in the healthcare sector for over 20 years now, developing groundbreaking products and solutions, such as telehealth platforms and clinical and epidemiological data mining platforms, as well as developments for surgical planning and navigation and services to ensure the security and privacy of health data.

The solutions and services offered by GMV have been developed in collaboration with hospitals, healthcare research institutes, universities, and leading national and international organizations, such as the Hospital La Paz Institute for Health Research; the Innovative Medicine Initiative (IMI); the Barcelona Supercomputing Center – National Supercomputing Center; the ACE Foundation-Catalan Institute of Applied Neurosciences; the Valencian Community Foundation for the Promotion of Health and Biomedical Research; the Canary Islands Health Research Institute Foundation; the TIC Salut Social Foundation; the Research Foundation of the Hospital Universitario y Politécnico La Fe in the Valencian Community; the Rioja Salud Foundation; the Galician Health Knowledge Agency (ACIS); the Complutense University of Madrid; the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital Foundation – Research Institute; the Hospital de Getafe Health Research Institute (issgetafe); the Hospital La Fe Health Research Institute (IIS La Fe) in Valencia; EIT Health; the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF); and Weill Cornell Medical College.
