GMV with sustainable mobility

EcoMobility, a discussion forum on sustainable mobility in the automotive sector, organized by the newspaper El Norte de Castilla and sponsored by GMV, took place in early July.

In addition to sponsoring the event, Carlos Barredo, head of the Aftermarket and R&D sections of the Automotive business unit, took part in the discussion panel held on July 2 to address the benefits and challenges represented by this paradigm shift in the transportation and mobility sector.

During the sessions, the presenters spoke about the new opportunities arising from the reality of the health crisis caused by COVID-19, the public’s demand for more environmentally-friendly solutions, infrastructure development economic plans, European economic recovery funds, and more. Carlos Barredo highlighted other fields of action to move forward in the transition to the new model of smart, sustainable mobility, such as access management to low-emissions urban areas using GNSS technology.

Other aspects that were pointed out include the added value of establishing alliances between the public sector and industry. In that area, Remourban, a European project that has created a more sustainable urban regeneration model, focusing on promoting more efficient cities, reducing the environmental impact, encouraging citizen participation, implementing innovative technologies and improving the sustainability of urban transit, where Valladolid is one of the locations acting as a lighthouse city.

Within the framework of Remourban, GMV was responsible for the shared care system implemented for the employees at Valladolid City Hall, in addition to the monitoring system for electric vehicles involved in the project to quantify the real impact of replacing internal combustion vehicles with cleaner options. The company was also responsible for monitoring five extended autonomy electric hybrid buses that operate 100% in electric mode in the “Low Emissions Zone” (ZBE).
