GMV present at the 59th annual conference of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO)

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of people dying from cancer is expected to rise to more than 11 million in 2030. The American Cancer Society estimates that 1.685 million new cases of cancer were diagnosed in the USA in 2016 and nearly two thirds of patients received radiation therapy during the course of their illness.

The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) holds an annual meeting to bring the year’s technological and methodological radiation-oncology breakthroughs to wider notice among the conference audience of specialists. In all the recent conferences GMV has been staging radiance demos.

Version 4 of radiance, which has been cleared for marketing in all EU states (CE marking), the USA, Australia, Singapore and New Zealand, offers a greater capacity of integration with IORT application devices than previous versions, greater calculation precision and is also more user-friendly. Carlos Illana, GMV’s Product Manager, presented the latest features of the version to specialists from Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital and Lima’s National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases (Instituto Nacional de enfermedades neoplásicas), among others. The international event turned out to be of great interest for identifying new opportunities and also for closing deals with current business partners.

The 59th Annual Conference of ASTRO, held last September in San Diego under the banner of “The healing art and science of radiation oncology”, attracted a turnout of over 1100.
