Spain’s defense industry: key to European strategic autonomy

On September 17, Ricardo Sáenz, GMV’s Director General of Defense and Security, participated in the third edition of the Diálogos para la Seguridad forum, organized by the newspaper El País and held at the Spanish National Defense Studies Center (CESEDEN) in Madrid, Spain.

The event, titled “European Defense in a World in Crisis”, brought together Amparo Valcarce, Secretary of State for Defense; Margarita Robles, Minister of Defense; and José Manuel Albares, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of the Government of Spain, along with national and international institutional representatives, key players from the industrial sector, and industry experts.

Ricardo Sáenz took part in the panel devoted to Spain’s defense industry, which focused on the key factors needed to strengthen the sector’s technological competitiveness and international reach. The forum also addressed Spain’s National Security Strategy, European strategic autonomy, and the role of the European Defence Agency, among other issues.

At a time when security and defense are at the center of the European political debate, GMV is consolidating its position as a strategic provider. Its solutions contribute to the development of interoperable capabilities and to strengthening European strategic autonomy, particularly in areas such as multidomain command, control and intelligence, space surveillance, and maritime surveillance.
