Industry 5.0: industrial transformation no longer measured in sensors, but in results

Industria 5.0: la transformación industrial ya no se mide en sensores, sino en resultados

GMV took part in a breakfast roundtable organized by enerTIC, bringing together industry leaders, logistics operators, and tech companies to examine the current state and future direction of Industry 5.0. Javier García, Business Development Manager for the Industry Sector, spoke on behalf of the company.

The discussion highlighted how industrial transformation is shifting from a technology-led approach toward one focused on measurable outcomes in terms of operational efficiency, sustainability, and value creation. In this new context, digitalization is no longer assessed by the number of sensors or systems deployed, but by its tangible impact on processes and decision-making.

A key takeaway was that the challenge lies not only in improving data analysis capabilities, but in accelerating and optimizing decision-making based on those data. In this regard, technologies such as artificial intelligence are ushering in a new stage of uptake, while also capturing and structuring operational knowledge, including the expertise of plant operators.

The discussion delved into the difficulties associated with this technological shift. Among them, participants highlighted the growing complexity of algorithmic models and the so-called “black box” problem, which makes systems harder to interpret and raises concerns around control, technological sovereignty, and vendor dependence. These difficulties are compounded by the human dimension of transformation, namely the need to support technology uptake with training and reskilling strategies in new tools and processes, ensuring that professionals can adapt to evolving digital environments and preventing the emergence of knowledge gaps within organizations.

Another key point was the need to align technology uptake with business strategy. Participants agreed that Industry 5.0 represents a mindset shift, wherein technology must be integrated coherently into production processes, with a focus on energy efficiency, operational resilience, and sustainability across the entire value chain.

Finally, the discussion underscored that the transition to Industry 5.0 is not only technological, but also organizational and cultural. This new model places at its core the ability of organizations to combine advanced technologies with human expertise, fostering industrial environments that are more adaptive, intelligent, and results-driven.

GMV’s participation in forums like this reinforces its commitment to advancing more efficient, resilient, and sustainable industrial models, in line with the trends shaping the future of the sector.
