The conversation focused on the accessibility and social equity of AI, sharing case studies and breaking down barriers to move towards an ideal model of inclusive and responsible AI.Miguel Hormigo specifically addressed the problems of AI adoption in the agricultural sector, a sector with both a notably aging workforce and an acute need for a change in business model. The introduction of digital twin technology in agricultural crop irrigation systems and data processing combined with AI is showing positive results, with water savings of up to 40%. Improved mobile robotics and process monitoring are the next challenges for artificial intelligence in the agricultural industry. In his remarks, Hormigo presented the AgrarIA project, led and coordinated by GMV. This innovative project uses artificial intelligence to improve sustainability and efficiency in the value chain of the Spanish agricultural sector, with the goal of achieving a carbon neutral and technologically advanced production model. Funded by the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Public Service, AgrarIA is developing an AI-based data space that will bring together all production, transformation, and distribution models in a single decoupled computing entity. This platform will enable the deployment of unique initiatives that are accelerating the sustainable transformation of the Spanish agri-food sector. The AgrarIA project, which will be completed by the end of this year, is a milestone in work on a sustainable agricultural future, bringing together robotics, bioengineering, and advanced data to optimize processes and minimize environmental impact. The AGRARIA Project: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE APPLIED TO THE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION VALUE CHAIN 2050 (TSI-100114-2021-0) project is funded by the Spanish Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Service, through the 2021 R&D Missions in Artificial Intelligence program, within the framework of the Digital Spain 2025 Agenda and the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, with European Union funding through the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.
