Avanza chooses GMV to carry out the digital transformation of its bus fleet in Málaga and Marbella

Avanza Málaga 2026

GMV and Avanza have signed an agreement for GMV to supply the new generation of DTD205 onboard equipment for buses in Málaga and Marbella. The project will strengthen the collaboration between the two companies and bolster Avanza’s commitment to incorporating cutting-edge technologies to improve public transportation operations and prepare its vehicles for the mobility challenges of the future.

The solution involves the deployment of more than 200 DTD205 units, a multifunction onboard platform developed by GMV that offers a single device for various functions traditionally distributed among several separate units, such as the driver’s console for ticketing, the computer-aided dispatch / automatic vehicle location (CAD/AVL) system, passenger information services, and integration with the vehicle’s systems.

In addition to supplying the hardware, the project incorporates Deepsy, GMV’s Linux LTS-based software platform, designed to decouple applications from the hardware and facilitate the development and maintenance of embedded solutions. Thanks to its open architecture and set of APIs, Deepsy enables the development of new features independent of the physical equipment, supporting the technological evolution of the fleet, reducing obsolescence, and protecting the operator’s investment in the long term.

The new devices feature 5G connectivity and advanced positioning capabilities through GNSS with dead reckoning, providing a platform ready to support the next generation of digital services. The native integration of 5G connectivity will also make it possible to adapt to evolving communications infrastructure without having to replace the onboard hardware in the future, while the positioning system will improve the continuity and accuracy of location tracking, even in complex urban environments.

Beyond the scope of the project, both companies see this initiative as a model for technological collaboration based on an open, scalable, and reusable platform. This approach will enable the incorporation of new features and applications throughout the vehicles’ lifecycle and will facilitate the rollout of this model to other Avanza operations, accelerating the technological standardization of its onboard systems and simplifying their future evolution.

For GMV, this agreement provides significant support for the company’s strategy of offering integrated technology platforms for public transportation, combining high-performance onboard hardware with software infrastructure designed to meet operators’ current and future needs. For Avanza, the project represents a commitment to technology architecture designed to evolve in step with the digitalization of public transportation, maximizing return on investment and the ability to adapt to new services.

The new equipment will be rolled out gradually across the fleets in Málaga and Marbella and will serve as the first example of a technology model designed to be scalable and replicable, as needed, in the group’s other operations.
