European Space Security and Defence Forum

Space capabilities have become a strategic pillar of European security and defence. As geopolitical and cyber threats continue to evolve, the continent is prioritizing efforts to strengthen the resilience and autonomy of its space ecosystem.

Against this backdrop, GMV will be taking part in the European Space Security and Defence Forum in Brussels on July 2. Representatives from European institutions and member states, as well as industry leaders and international partners, will gather to discuss the future of space and defence capabilities.

Silvia Calle, Program Manager for Cybersecurity at GMV, will speak in the session “Cybersecurity and Space – Building Resilient Systems Fit for the Digital Age,” which will explore the real-world challenges of applying cybersecurity to space systems from a regulatory, technical and operational perspective. The session will examine topics including the growing exposure of space systems to increasingly sophisticated threats, vulnerabilities across the different phases and segments of a mission, and the difficulties involved in protecting complex, critical infrastructures with long operational life cycles.

During her presentation, Calle will share GMV’s expertise in securing complex space systems, focusing on the practical challenges of integrating cybersecurity into mission-critical environments. Key topics include managing vulnerability, striking the right balance between commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components and custom developments, protecting legacy systems, and designing architectures and response mechanisms capable of ensuring the resilience and operational continuity of Europe’s space infrastructure.
