2nd Space Law Conference

Congreso Jurídico Espacial

In late April GMV took part in the Space Law Conference entitled “Need for Regulation in Spain’s Space Industry II,” organized by the Space Committee of the Spanish Engineering Institute and the Aerospace Law Observatory, made up of the Spanish Association of Air and Space Law (AEDAE) and the GIESA-BIOLAW research group at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid’s Faculty of Law.

The event brought together aerospace industry and government representatives, who engaged in five round-table discussions.

Jorge Potti, GMV’s Space General Manager and vice president of TEDAE’s Space Committee, took part in two of them. In the first, on institutional matters, together with representatives of institutions such as INTA, EUSPA, CTA and the Department of National Security of the Spanish Ministry of the Presidency, he discussed the progress made in creating the Spanish Space Agency.

The advisory committee on the creation of the Spanish Space Agency was set up on 6 April. This body will advise the government on where to set up the Agency and will establish the procedure for determining the municipal district in which its physical headquarters will be located. According to the Ministry of Territorial Policy, the allocation process will take a total of three months.

Potti also took part in the round-table discussion called “Legal needs.” During the various interventions, the panelists discussed some of the main issues to be regulated in the future law governing space activities in Spain.

GMV’s participation in this conference further reinforces its commitment to the present and future developments of the aerospace industry in Spain.
