Gdynia, finalist in the European Mobility Week

Gdynia 0

Gdynia has won itself a place on the podium of the European Mobility Week Awards. The European Mobility Week, organized under the chairmanship of the European Commission, is Europe’s biggest sustainable-urban-transport initiative. In this first award scheme the Polish city competed for the main prize with Lisbon (Portugal) and Palma (Spain). The jury evaluated the cities' efforts to promote mobility during the European Sustainable Transport Week 2018. The jury, including representatives from the International Association Public Transport, Traject - Mobility Management, the European Cyclists' Federation and FGM-AMOR, appreciated Gdynia’s thoroughgoing public-transport promoting program.

TRISTAR: Tri-City’s sustainable-transport scheme

Gdynia encourages residents to use public transport on a daily basis; not only during events such as Mobility Week. The Tri-City Smart Agglomeration Transport System - TRISTAR - for which GMV has implemented a public transport fleet management system with a dynamic passenger information system, is a good example of Gdynia’s ongoing encouragement of the use of public transport, making it easier for all passengers.

TRISTAR is an integrated system of intelligent traffic control in Tri-City (Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot). It consists of such solutions as the priority transport system for public transport vehicles, as well as the proprietary Fleet Management and Passenger Information System based on GPS, mobile communication and GIS technologies. Among other advantages it provides travelers with current information on the expected time of arrival of buses and trams at stops and allows the dispatchers of the Traffic Control Center to monitor the position and status of vehicles in real time and carry out regulatory activities. This in turn enables residents to plan their journey ahead and shorten their travel time in the Tri-City metropolitan area.
