GMV advances secure timing and synchronization solutions through Galileo PRS technology

PRESENTIS leverages Galileo PRS capabilities to deliver resilient and secure timing solutions for critical applications

GMV strengthens its WANTime platform through certified PRS receiver technology and server-based navigation solutions

The project combines high-TRL technologies and industry expertise to expand secure synchronization capabilities across operational environments

PRESENTIS

GMV is leading the PRESENTIS (Public Regulated Service Network Time Solution) project, an initiative funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme and focused on leveraging the robustness of the Galileo Public Regulated Service (PRS) to address highly demanding timing and synchronization applications for governmentally authorised user communities. 

Secure and resilient timing capabilities are becoming increasingly important for critical infrastructures and operational environments where continuity and protection against interference are essential.

The project targets operational environments where the specific features of PRS — such as service continuity, access control, and resilience against jamming and spoofing — provide clear advantages compared to open GNSS services. 

PRESENTIS focuses on two complementary use cases developed in parallel: PRS-based network time synchronization for civilian applications, and PRS-based sensor and data integration combining position and time. Addressing both scenarios simultaneously strengthens the technical outcomes and broadens the range of potential applications.

The primary objective of PRESENTIS is to merge and exploit the robustness of PRS for the most demanding timing and synchronization scenarios. GMV and its industrial consortium bring extensive experience in high-capacity timing solutions, with previous work carried out for ESA, large scientific infrastructures, and in collaboration with leading international timing laboratories.

A key element of the project is GMV’s fully operational PRS receiver PRESENCE2, developed jointly with CIPHERBIT. Using this receiver as a trusted time source will enhance GMV’s WANTime product, a high-capacity network timing and synchronization solution, providing PRS-based protection, maximum availability, and continuity for critical timing applications. In parallel, GMV will evolve its PRS server-based navigation solution to assess its suitability as a time source for WANTime. This approach centralizes key management on a secure server, enabling PRS-based timing for devices without local encryption keys and expanding the range of deployable use cases.

The project is built on high-TRL technologies, combining proven GMV products with PRS capabilities to deliver a robust, scalable solution. PRESENTIS also includes engagement activities with public and private stakeholders, raising awareness and demonstrating how secure PRS-based timing can address real operational challenges.
