«Tecnologías para la Defensa y la Seguridad»

The TechDefense took place in Rome from November 20 to 22, with the main objective of encompassing all research areas in defense and security. Due to the breadth of the topics covered, this conference aims to attract diverse participation and collaboration from academia, industry, defense, and government agencies that promote interests in this sector.

The Workshop highlighted new technologies and applications for: Imaging and Sensing Technology, Materials for Defense Technologies, Radar, Sonar and Acoustic Signal Processing, Data Fusion, Deep Learning, Machine Learning, Marine Technologies, Security, Underwater, Transports & Logistics, Ethics, Education.

Tomás Pedro, Junior Development Engineer at GMV in Portugal, had the opportunity to present a paper resulting from his master's thesis developed between GMV and the Faculdade de Ciências (Faculty of Sciences), titled 'Machine Learning for Ship Detection with Radar.' This paper demonstrates how the use of Artificial Intelligence techniques can help eliminate noise in radar signals and detect ships, especially in adverse atmospheric conditions. The results of this study, closely related to the European project SEANICE/MUSAS, will be incorporated into GMV solutions, particularly Shiplocus®.

This was a great opportunity to expand the network of contacts among key players in the field, promoting collaborations and multidisciplinary work to address research challenges and foster the next generation of scientific discoveries.
