GMV supported the initiative in collaboration with the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), specifically as part of the activities organized by the Extragalactic Astrophysics and Astronomical Instrumentation Group (GUAIX).UCM’s School of Physical Sciences held an open house aimed at showcasing to the public some of the most notable astronomical instrumentation projects, with a special focus on MOSAIC. This multi-object spectrograph will be part of the future Extremely Large Telescope (ELT), set to become the world’s largest telescope, which the European Southern Observatory (ESO) is now building in Chile’s Atacama Desert. As part of this project, GMV is working with UCM on consolidating the control-system requirements for MOSAIC’s calibration unit, bringing its expertise in engineering and advanced control systems.Visitors also had the chance to learn in depth about the HERA mission and the Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) system developed by GMV for that mission, as well as its evolution into the RAMSES project, underscoring GMV’s key role in developing cutting-edge space technologies.Coinciding with the week’s events, Juan Carlos Gil took part in the Naukas event held in Valladolid, delivering a talk on how space activities impact our daily lives and the potential of future space missions to drive progress. He also highlighted the importance of using space as a unifying force that contributes to the common good, emphasizing the need for responsible practices that ensure a sustainable and equitable future for the sector.Initiatives like Science Week are an opportunity to bring science and technology closer to the public. GMV participates to help promote scientific culture and spark interest in STEM fields.
