41.ª Reunión del Cercle d’Economia

From June 1 to 3, the 41st Cercle d’Economia Annual Meeting brought together business leaders, academics, and policymakers to discuss some of the most pressing economic, social, and political challenges facing Europe at the local, national, and supranational levels.

The event took place at the Palau de Congressos in Barcelona under the theme “Europe’s strategic autonomy: myth or reality?” The program featured prominent political leaders such as Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Alberto Núñez Feijóo, leader of the Partido Popular. Over the course of three days, participants engaged in panel discussions and debate sessions addressing key issues related to European strategic autonomy from a range of perspectives, with a focus on practical and business-oriented implications.

GMV President Mónica Martínez Walter represented the company on the panel discussion “Applied AI, robotics, and the new European industrial model,” where she shared her views on the impact of technologies such as generative artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced robotics on strategic sectors and the future of employment. During her remarks, she emphasized the importance of ensuring that AI remains subject to human judgment, oversight, and accountability in order to guarantee its reliability in critical systems.

Against a backdrop of accelerating technological change, industrial transformation, and geopolitical shifts, the meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on the role of innovation, talent, and advanced technologies in sharpening Europe’s competitive edge.
