Thirty years ago, the Ministerial Council of the European Space Agency (ESA) approved the ARTES-9 program, initiating a pioneering collaboration between ESA, the European Commission, Eurocontrol, and European industry for the development of satellite navigation in Europe.

To mark this anniversary, a celebration was held on September 2, 2025, at the European Space Research and Technology Center (ESTEC) in Noordwijk, where GMV was recognized as one of the most outstanding industrial partners for its technological contribution to the Galileo and EGNOS programs. The event, which brought together leading representatives of ESA, European authorities and industrial partners, highlighted the collaboration and joint work carried out in this field.

Miguel Romay, General Manager of GMV's Satellite Navigation Systems, received the award on behalf of the company, highlighting the collaboration and dedication that have made this achievement possible.

GMV plays a key role in the development, evolution, and operation of the Galileo program, being responsible for the design, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the ground control and mission segment, as well as several service centers associated with the system. The company also actively participates in system operations and in the development of user terminals for Galileo's Public Regulated Service (PRS) applications, thus reinforcing its commitment to innovation and safety in satellite navigation.

Thanks to its constant commitment to innovation, GMV has introduced numerous technological improvements that have increased the reliability and accuracy of Galileo, consolidating the system as the global benchmark in satellite navigation. Galileo currently serves more than 5 billion users worldwide, offering various positioning, navigation and time synchronization services.

GMV has played a key role since the early stages of the European satellite augmentation system, EGNOS. Among its most notable contributions is the development of the CPFPS (EGNOS Central Processing Facility: Processing Set), the heart of the system responsible for calculating all corrections and integrity messages sent to users. In addition, GMV has actively participated in the creation of test beds, simulators, analysis and monitoring tools. Since 2006, it has also been responsible for the development and maintenance of EDAS, the European data access service for EGNOS.

EGNOS improves the accuracy, reliability and integrity of GPS signals in Europe, benefiting air, maritime and land navigation in particular.

This recognition consolidates GMV as a leader in positioning technologies and a key strategic partner for the development of European satellite navigation systems.
