On 21 and 22 May GMV hosted the second meeting of the industrial group of specialists on Approach and Landing Systems, NIAG SG-175.

The mission of the NIAGs (NATO Industrial Advisory Groups) is to provide NATO with the industry’s advice and consultancy on a given technology or capability. The particular mission of the working group SG-175 is to analyze the state of the art and maturity of technologies in terms of GNSS signal processing, wireless data links and the operational impact of a mil-GBAS solution.

For its future Approach and Landing Systems NATO has opted for the GNSS-based mil-GBAS solution (Ground Based Augmentation Systems) to replace the PAR (Precision Approach Radar) systems, currently in service with NATO’s air forces and now showing grave problems of obsolescence.

GMV is participating actively in SG-175 as an expert in GNSS applications, inputting the experience it has built up in diverse projects such as the Relative-GPS-Based Naval Landing Approach System SAGRAN; the support system for helicopter-operation positioning services HeliCity or, more recently, the automatic landing system of the UAV ATLANTE , where it has developed GNSS-based precision approach systems.
