How can technology help combat fraud and money laundering?

AEECF entrevista a Jesús Roldán de GMV

Jesús Roldán, Head of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence at GMV, took part in a video interview organized by the Spanish Association of Anti-Fraud Companies (AEECF), where he discussed key challenges and trends in the fight against financial fraud and money laundering.

During the interview, he highlighted the global scale of these illicit activities, estimated by the International Monetary Fund to account for between 2% and 5% of global GDP. He also addressed the role of organizations such as SEPBLAC and the significant regulatory changes being introduced in Europe through the Authority for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AMLA).

Another topic of discussion was the importance of education and awareness in preventing fraud. When faced with urgent requests involving transfers, credentials, or verification codes, Roldán stressed the importance of always verifying the information through an alternative channel before taking action.

The interview also highlighted the potential of graph technologies for advanced fraud detection. These tools make it possible to identify complex relationships between individuals, accounts, and transactions, helping uncover patterns and structures that other technologies may fail to detect, such as mule accounts and certain money laundering schemes.

At GMV, we have spent years developing big data and artificial intelligence solutions that help organizations and institutions stay ahead of fraud, strengthen their investigative capabilities, and contribute to a safer financial environment.
