Home Communication News Back New search Date Min Max Any contentNewsPress release Aeronautics Automotive Corporate Cybersecurity Defense and Security Financial Healthcare Industry Intelligent Transportation Systems Digital Public Services Services Space Space ASTRALIS project launched to build Europe's future autonomous capabilities for in-orbit service 31/07/2026 Share GMV is contributing to ASTRALIS, a Horizon Europe project that brings together 15 partners from 8 European countries to lay the foundations for Europe's future in-space logistics infrastructure and strengthen the continent's autonomous capabilities for in-orbit servicing.The project supports the European Commission's ISOS4I (In-Space Operations and Services for Europe) Pilot Mission, an ambitious initiative that represents the first step in the rollout of a European in-orbit servicing and refuelling infrastructure by 2030. By developing the technologies and operational concepts required for autonomous in-orbit servicing, ISOS4I is laying the foundations for sustainable commercial and institutional in-space services while reinforcing Europe's strategic autonomy and resilience in space.Within this framework, ASTRALIS is developing the Logistics Component (LC), a reusable and modular spacecraft designed to transport servicing satellites, satellite applications and propellant between launch vehicles and spacecraft in orbit. The vehicle will also enable key capabilities such as in-orbit refuelling, servicing and disposal, while promoting interoperability across mission elements and validating critical technologies up to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6.GMV brings to the project extensive expertise in in-orbit servicing technologies, built through programs with the European Union, ESA, CNES and UKSA, covering areas such as active debris removal, satellite inspection, refuelling and in-orbit systems.As part of ASTRALIS, GMV is contributing to the development of the refuelling interface through its ASSIST technology, as well as supporting avionics, system engineering and testing activities. ASSIST is Europe's most advanced initiative for a standardised satellite refuelling interface, designed as an interoperable, non-proprietary docking and refuelling system compatible with both gaseous and liquid storable propellants. By enabling future spacecraft to refuel and exchange resources in orbit, ASSIST represents a key enabling technology for sustainable space logistics and satellite life extension.By supporting the development of interoperable in-space logistics technologies, ASTRALIS will help create the infrastructure needed for future commercial and institutional servicing missions, reducing Europe's dependence on non-European capabilities and fostering a competitive and sustainable space ecosystem.The ASTRALIS project was officially launched on 25 June at the consortium's kick-off meeting, hosted by Ariane Group in Bremen, Germany. This project is funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme.
