This project has received funding from the European Union's innovation and research program Horizon 2020 under grant agreement No. 730426.

The purpose of the Urban GreenUP project is to create a tailored methodology assist the joint development of Renaturing Urban Plans to mitigate climate change, implement efficient, adapted water management, and aid the effective implementation of nature-based solutions (NBS). It will cover the classification and parameter configuration of the NBSs, establishing certain decision-making assistance resources as part of the project activities. A large-scale, fully replicable NBS demonstration accompanied by innovative business models will provide data on the benefits of the NBSs, contributing to the creation of new market opportunities for European companies and promoting citizen understanding and awareness of environmental problems.

Six cities for one project

Three European cities will be responsible for providing the first demonstration (Valladolid, Liverpool, and Izmir), followed by another three to reinforce the results replication potential (Rovaniemi, Ludwigsburg, and Mantova), and, finally, three non-European cities (Medellin, Chengdu, and Quy Nhon), which will make it possible to identify market opportunities for European companies outside of Europe, while promoting European leadership in adopting NBS on a global scale. URBAN GreenUp also seeks to promote the creation of a global market and international cooperation for the EU, the implementation of an Operating and Market rollout procedure for NBSs, and the launch of an impact-based communication and publication strategy.
