WANTime General Description
Example of a GNSS-restricted environment
WANTime is a precise optical-fiber UTC time distribution service for the city of Madrid. It has been designed with robust timing for banking, finances and datacenters in mind, especially when it is not possible to set up a GNSS antenna, when there is little satellite visibility or when there is a risk of GNSS interference. WANTime caters for the timing needs deriving from the new European MiFID II regulation for the financial instruments market. It is traceable to the official Spanish UTC time (ROA – Royal Navy Observatory).

At the moment WANTime is providing a service for a first pilot client: the Spanish Stockmarket Organization (Bolsas y Mercados Españoles: BME). BME’s head office, in Las Rozas, Madrid, is connected to GMV by a 44-km optical-fiber link
