During the meeting, the members of the delegation had the chance to get a close-up look at GMV’s key projects and capabilities in strategic fields such as space, security, and technological innovation.In addition to representatives of the Italian embassy, the delegation included senior representatives from institutions involved in space policy, science diplomacy and cybersecurity, such as members of the Comitato Interministeriale per le Politiche Relative allo Spazio (COMINT); Lamberto Moruzzi, director for Space and Science at the Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale (MAECI); General Luigi Riggio, secretary of COMINT; and Lieutenant Colonel Nicola Donati Guerrieri, a member of the Joint Cybersecurity Command.During the visit, the delegation toured GMV’s facilities and saw some of the spaces where many space missions are being carried out. Pedro Lopez, NGSOS-NSGCS section chief, presented the Multimission Room, the control center for the European Space Agency’s (ESA) robust navigation mission in low-Earth orbit (LEO), Celeste. Meanwhile, Bruno Néstor Calvo, head of the Satellite Navigation Systems AIV Services division, took the visitors to the Galileo Room, a replica of the European satellite navigation system’s operations center.The tour concluded at the Space Robotics and Avionics Laboratory, a facility focusing on the development of technology for strategic sectors. The visit was presented by Mariella Graziano, the director of Strategy and Business Development for GMV Space Systems, and Mariasole Melara, the head of GMV’s Avionics and Space Equipment Division (SAE).The visit to GMV’s facilities took place at a time when efforts are being made to boost European cooperation and, in particular, collaboration between Italy and Spain in areas such space and security, where coordination between public and private stakeholders is increasingly crucial.
