GMV is taking part in the 6th International Conference on Space Mission Challenges for Information Technology (SMC-IT 2017) to be held in Alcalá de Henares University from 27 to 29 September.

SMC-IT is the first forum to bring together software and system engineers, scientists and other professionals to drive forward space-mission information technology.

The forum presents a fine opportunity for swapping technical information on all aspects of space-mission IT. The conference will be focusing on current and emerging IT practice and the challenges for future space missions. All space-mission aspects will be explored, including flight systems, onboard systems, scientific data processing, development and engineering tools, operations and telecommunications. The whole lifecycle of IT mission development will be brought under the spotlight.

Jorge Ocón, GMV Technical Head of the Avionics and Onboard SW Division, is taking part in the seminar entitled “Onboard Autonomous Planning for Space and Harsh Environments. Workshop (OBAPSHE) on 28 September in the International Relations Hall (Sala de Relaciones Internacionales).

Autonomous planning is one of the most intensive artificial intelligence areas; in recent years it has been increasingly brought to bear on real domains. In particular there is an increasing number of applications based on the idea of domain-dependent or domain-independent solvers applied to space. In view of the limitations of onboard systems, however, with restricted computational power and memory resources, there is still some leeway for presenting advanced techniques. Contributions here should describe the best approaches, addressing space robotics within planetary exploration in on-orbit services or similar scenarios (terrestrial services).
