GMV, a key player in debates on the future of the defense sector

In December, GMV's CEO, Jesús B. Serrano, participated in the 11th Forum "Megatrends: Industry and Competitiveness," organized by the newspaper El Economista. During the event, Serrano took part in the roundtable "Strategic Autonomy: The Priority of Defense," where the geopolitical challenges affecting the development of the defense industry in Europe were analyzed, and the necessary measures to strengthen the sector's technological and budgetary sovereignty were evaluated.

In today's increasingly complex international political context, the importance of technological initiatives that drive the defense sector is becoming more evident. For GMV's CEO, Jesús B. Serrano, increasing defense budgets is crucial for the development of homegrown technologies that ensure Europe's strategic autonomy, a goal that, however, is still far off, Serrano stated.

Despite the political commitment, GMV's CEO emphasized the need to create a clear regulatory framework to achieve the defense sector's objectives. "The first thing needed is an action framework, something that still cannot be done. There are no funds, no rules, no regulations... The political drive is there, but not the regulatory one," he pointed out.

GMV's CEO stressed that the landscape must change to give Spain its rightful place in the sector: "Besides the level of investment, it is necessary to generate Spanish influence in Europe in line with its role. GMV wants Spain to take its place so that, in economic and influence terms, the country can create joint demand within the European Union," he concluded.
