GMV is sponsoring this year’s International Symposium on Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Automation in Space (i-SAIRAS 2018), to be held in Madrid from 4 to 6 June, a must-attend event for the world’s main experts and organizations in these cutting-edge space applications.

i-SAIRAS is a biennial symposium organized by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA-ASC), the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the European Space Agency (ESA), the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

This Symposium, serving as a meeting point for the international community of professionals working in the space application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Automation and Robotics (A&R), will be a discussion forum showcasing new ideas and developments of a groundbreaking research effort in artificial intelligence, robotics and space automation.

As well as sponsoring the symposium, GMV will also be presenting 4 papers:

  • Joaquín Estremera, Doctor in Physics of GMV, will be speaking about “Preliminary Design and Study of Performance of a High Mobility Sample Fetching Rover”.
  • Fernando Gandía, GMV’s Control Systems Engineer Space Segment and Robotics Aerospace, will be giving a paper on “The LUCID field test campaign – Results of operations with a rover in a similar lunar environment”.
  • Marcos Avilés, GMV’s Advanced Space Systems and Technologies Aerospace, will be speaking about “SPARTAN, Vision–Based Autonomous Navigation System for Fast Traversal Planetary Rovers”.
  • Jorge Ocón Alonso, GMV’s Technical Responsible Avionics and Onboard SW Division Space Systems – Aerospace, will be talking about “Using the ERGO framework for space robotics in a planetary and an orbital scenario”.
