Club Diálogos para la Democracia

On February 23, Seville became the meeting point to analyze Spain’s role in the new European space landscape, within the framework of the informational breakfast organized by Club Diálogos para la Democracia and sponsored by GMV.

Juan Carlos Cortés, Director of the Spanish Space Agency, headlined the event alongside Enrique Fraga, General Manager of Space Systems EST at GMV, and industry professionals, in a dialogue that brought together institutional vision and industrial perspective. The event concluded with a discussion attended by more than 100 participants, including representatives from public administration, the aerospace industry, and sector experts.

During his remarks, Cortés emphasized that space has become a structural element for security, economic prosperity, and the ability to respond to global threats, highlighting Spain’s commitment to strengthening the sector, as reflected in the increase of its contribution to the European Space Agency from 5.5% to 8.84%.

For his part, Enrique Fraga stressed that industrial competitiveness is the determining factor of Spain’s strategic sovereignty. He underscored the need to define national sovereignty in the space domain, strengthen critical capabilities, and articulate a robust industrial policy to effectively contribute to shared European autonomy.

The event highlighted Spain’s growing role as a key player in advancing European strategic autonomy, supported by the strengthening of its space ecosystem through sound policies, the development of sovereign critical capabilities, effective public-private collaboration, and a strong commitment to talent.
