GMV hosts Annual Review Meeting of Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping Service

GMV hosted on 14 and 15 April at its Lisbon offices the «Annual Review Meeting – Year 3» of the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (EMS) Rapid Mapping, marking a key milestone in the evolution of one of the European Union’s flagship programmes for crisis management. The event brought together representatives from the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) and leading partners from the consortium led by e-GEOS, part of Leonardo Space, to assess progress and define future priorities.

The Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping service plays a critical role in emergency management by delivering timely and reliable geospatial information in response to natural and man‑made disasters such as wildfires, floods or other crisis situations. Its ability to provide actionable data within a timeframe of 2 to 10 hours after activation makes it a key tool for supporting rapid decision-making in high-pressure scenarios.

GMV is part of the consortium responsible for both the Rapid Mapping and Risk and Recovery components of the service and, following its renewal in 2023, continues to contribute to the Rapid Mapping activities under the current framework contract running until 2028. Its sustained involvement in Copernicus reflects a long-standing contribution to the programme since its inception in 2012, and highlights GMV’s continued role in supporting the delivery of geospatial intelligence across all phases of the disaster management cycle.

Over the two-day meeting, participants reviewed the main achievements of the past year, evaluated operational performance and identified areas for improvement, while aligning upcoming activities and the future evolution of the service. The sessions were complemented by a visit to GMV’s facilities, offering an opportunity to showcase the company’s capabilities in the space domain, particularly in Earth Observation.

The meeting also highlighted the strength of collaboration within the consortium _comprising organisations such as EGEOS, Telespazio Ibérica, GAF AG, Ithaca Srl, ICube-SERTIT, CLS, IABG, Planetek Hellas and GMV— and the continued engagement with the European Commission’s JRC in driving innovation and service excellence.
