The European Union’s project «GEXTRECS» (GOVSATCOM Extreme Events Crisis Management Service), coordinated by GMV under the Horizon Europe programme, is entering its final phase with the organization of live demonstrations on October 23. These activities will showcase an end-to-end secure satellite communication (SATCOM) service tailored for extreme disaster scenarios, validating its capacity to support cross-border crisis response.

The scenario is based on massive earthquake off the cost of Porto, with international assistance provided by German Search & Rescue unit and a Spanish maritime team delivering aid and evacuating casualties. The demonstration will also highlight the added value of EU Space Programme components like Copernicus and Galileo for situational awareness and coordination.

Key technological innovations, including the Dynamic Planner developed by GMV to optimize the allocation of SATCOM resources, will be validated by end-users under realistic conditions.

Following the demo, an interactive Stakeholders Workshop is planned to exchange insights, discuss lessons learned, and gather feedback from participants on the operational use and added value of GOVSATCOM services for emergency and crisis management.
