Precise positioning in urban and suburban environments

GMV is collaborating with Dragados, a construction firm of the ACS Group in the hypode project , an R&D initiative cofounded by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism (Ministerio de Industria, Energía y Turismo) as part of the National Plan of Scientific Research, Development and Technological Innovation 2008-2011 (Plan Nacional de Investigación Científica, Desarrollo e Innovación Tecnológica 2008-2011).

The aim of hypode is to develop a high-performance positioning technology based on an information server and a user terminal. The study focuses on use of the system in urban and suburban environments.

The lines of research include providing a prototype mobile-internet assistance service that represents the future developments of the assisted GNSS (A-GNSS) concept and also developing a conceptual user terminal demonstrator and the possible incorporation of this terminal in a specific GNSS receiver.

The typical applications identified within the hypode project include freight transport, for locating freight on a “push to fix” basis, and also civil engineering, in topographic terrain-mapping work and construction setting-out work in a suburban or off-shore environment.

The necessary infrastructure has now been developed for field-testing the various services. This infrastructure is based on GMV’s magicGNSS product line .
