GMV at Barcelona Predictions

IDG, in conjunction with IDC, the biggest supplier of market intelligence in the ICT sector in the world, organised the event Barcelona Predictions 2016 with the theme “The Disruption Generation: Changing the World”, at which the main current trends and those that will hold sway in the near future were presented. GMV shared with the audience its point of view and its knowledge about the technological trends that are shaping the ICT sector this year

José María Legido, Manager of the North East Region at GMV Secure e-Solutions, examined in his presentation the cybersecurity challenges caused by digital transformation, highlighting the need to ensure the security of organisations’ information as they undertake their specific transformation processes.

As he noted, the massive amount of information generated by devices that connect people at all times everywhere – according to the latest Gartner report, it is expected that there will be 25,000 million objects connected in 2020, which means 4 objects per person— poses an enormous challenge. “Faced with a hyperconnected society in which data security must be of paramount importance, the appearance of a new context via Industry 4.0 or the Internet of Things has led to new risks for users and organisations.” Moreover, as Legido points out, “the emerging threats are not intrinsic to technology, but rather they come from experts in cyber-crime. Unpredictability, sophistication and connection with the physical world are excellent allies for cyber-criminals.”

As the Manager of the North East Region of GMV Secure e-Solutions made clear, governments and organisations must work towards creating “a regulatory framework which safeguards information, making everyone think about the global threat involved in the theft of confidential and personal data.” In José María Legido’s opinion, “there is little cooperation among organisations to mitigate or prevent the damage caused by cyberattacks.”

In his talk, he concluded that “although digital transformation has opened the door to a promising future, an adequate level of security is required in its implementation.” As he put it, it is vital “to be aware that the economy and individuals’ quality of life are at stake.” In this regard, he described GMV’s proposals as regards systems for the early control and detection of fraud that protect some of the world’s main banks.
