GMV is using AI and advanced technologies to drive agrifood innovation

Under the slogan “SembrAI: Intelligence that Feeds Tomorrow”, the 2nd International Congress on Artificial Intelligence Applied to the Agrifood Chain brought together business leaders, experts, and researchers, to discuss the impact of artificial intelligence on the revolution taking place in the agrifood industry. At the event, Miguel Hormigo, Manager of GMV’s Industry Sector, highlighted the company’s commitment to the industry’s digital transformation through four strategic pillars.

As part of his presentation during the round table discussion, he explained how GMV is helping to optimize the agrifood industry by using earth observation with satellite images, which is improving sustainability and making it possible to, for example, estimate crop production for wineries. He also said that creation of a data space is essential, in order to ensure proper organization and exploitation of the information generated by AI projects. Mr. Hormigo went on to highlight the application of automation mechanisms in the agrifood industry, so that data can be used to implement preventive and predictive maintenance, in a strategy aligned with the application of autonomous, collaborative, and industrial robotics. Finally, he stressed the importance of improving cybersecurity in an increasingly connected environment.

One clear example of this is AgrarIA, an innovative project led by GMV with 24 other partners, which is considered to be the first data space initiative focused on modeling the agrifood value chain. This project is integrating artificial intelligence and digital twins to improve energy efficiency at refrigeration plants, and developing mobility management platforms for agricultural machinery, with use cases that now include, among others, an autonomous robot that accurately identifies and sprays weeds.
