GMV shows how to squeeze the last drop out of fuel consumption

All vehicles taking part in the latest ALD Ecomotion Tour trial (June, 6th and 7th) were fitted with GMV’s U10 onboard unit.

The ALD Ecomotion Tour, organized by the fleet management and leasing company ALD Automotive, is a fuel consumption trial for standard cars being marketed at the current time. During the two days of the trial twenty teams vie with one another to cut average fuel consumption as far below the manufacturer’s quoted figure as possible. Each team is made up by a journalist and a representative of the vehicle manufacturer; together they have to show how efficient driving can reduce fuel consumption and also considerably increase the safety levels of our car journeys.

The U10 equipment fitted on the vehicles sent information every 15 seconds to Palview®, an inhouse GMV development that draws up a complete report. This report, together with ALD’s tank-level reading, was then sent on to each participant at the end of the trial. This report on vehicle performance, checkpoint passing times and speed distribution was welcomed by participants and awakened great interest.

This year’s sixth challenge covered 520 kms from Las Rozas in Madrid to Cuenca, running along roads of all sorts, including cities, towns and villages and mountain roads. The participating vehicle-makes included Audi, BMW, Citroën, Fiat, Ford, Hyundai, Mazda, Opel, Peugeot, Seat, Volvo and Volkswagen.
