Desayuno Executive Forum

GMV recently sponsored an executive breakfast event organized by Executive Forum España and the Spanish Bus Transportation Federation (CONFEBUS), where one of the featured participants was Luis Miguel Torres Hernández, Director-General of Transportation and Mobility for the regional government of the Community of Madrid. The event took place on April 7th, and it brought together representatives from the public sector and industry to analyze the region’s current challenges and opportunities related to mobility.

During his presentation, Mr. Torres Hernández explained that the mobility system in Madrid is one of the most advanced in Europe, with a solid system that can be used as the basis for taking on innovation-related challenges in transportation. He announced the future Mobility Act (Ley de Movilidad) being developed for the Community of Madrid, which would be a historical first. He explained that the purpose of this legislation is to harmonize regulations, reduce administrative burdens, and integrate new forms of mobility such as autonomous vehicles and aerial systems, while also taking into account the need for environmental, financial, and social sustainability.

He described some of the progress being made on autonomous mobility in the region, with various pilot projects already underway, and he stressed the need for collaborations with entities such as Spain’s Directorate-General of Traffic (DGT) for their ongoing development. He highlighted the importance of data and public-private collaborations, as two key factors for improving the system’s efficiency, and he used the automation of Metro Line 6 as an example. Finally, he explained that the overall goal is to ensure equal access to transportation for everyone.

This event also featured a presentation by Miguel Ángel Martínez Olagüe, General Manager of Intelligent Transportation Systems at GMV, who participated in a roundtable discussion focused on evolution of the industry and the role being played by technology in the new mobility models. With regard to autonomous mobility, he stressed that intelligent transportation systems (ITS) will increasingly become critical systems, rather than just support systems, with operations based on orchestrated, integrated interactions among vehicles, infrastructure elements, and control centers.
