Within the context of the Internet of Things (IoT) growing importance is now being attached to the proper use of those technological paradigms that are enabling communication between said “things” and Internet, i.e., Machine To Machine.
M2M is essential for setting up communication networks that can support IoT in a sustainable way without each “thing” needing to have a direct internet connection. Within this scenario certain communication protocols are now emerging like Zigbee or Z-Wave, whose main advantage in this field is the possibility of establishing a mesh-network architecture with a low energy cost.
But that is not all. New security and infrastructure working lines are now emerging in this scenario too, and this technology is being harnessed for new business models and user experiences in areas such as publicity, tourism, retail, transport and healthcare. All this, as could hardly be otherwise, is also tied in with mobile technologies.
