PERIMETER MONITORING AND ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEMS

GMV has experience in the development and integration of systems that allow complete management control of guest, personnel and vehicle access into buildings, as well as other types of facilities such as ports or ships. In this area, GMV provides a completely open, totally integrated solution in compliance with all the functions and needs requested by the client.

The case of commercial ports is of particular interest in terms of its relevance and complexity. Commercial ports are essential to the Spanish economy. Continuity of service is critical to commercial, industrial and tourist activities. Large ports are highly complex organizations, with great diversity as far as activities and facilities. The most common elements present in a port include:

  • Outer dams and docks
  • Access channels
  • Anchoring zones
  • Loading and unloading piers (passengers, containers, general cargo, wheeled cargo, grains, etc.)
  • Passenger terminals
  • Cargo warehouses
  • Container parks
  • Parking lots for wheeled cargo (trucks, automobiles, etc.).
Cranes, tractors, trucks and other vehicles to handle cargo.
    Administrative buildings
  • Fuel tanks and facilities to refuel ships
  • Electrical lines, transformers and electrical generators
  • Water supply and storage tanks
  • Tugboat services

Some ports specialize in specific types of activities, as in the case of ports owned by large industrial facilities such as refineries, kilns, cement factories, etc.

Port facilities are prone to different types of damages that affect their efficiency and the integrity of people and goods, and that can prevent the fulfillment of assigned missions or cause considerable losses.

Losses may be the result of deliberate or non-deliberate acts. Deliberate acts include losses caused by acts of vandalism, sabotage and terrorist attacks. Non-deliberate acts include damage caused by carelessness, improper operation, breakdowns, etc.

When dealing with security, we need to remember that most of the Spanish ports share the same characteristic: proximity to densely populated areas.

GMV is developing an integral solution to protect ports that covers the following stages:

  1. Analysis of security issues faced by any given commercial port

  2. Conceptual development of the architecture of an integrated system directed to solving said problem

  3. Development of a control center prototype

  4. GMV's work methodology to analyze, design and develop a Comprehensive Security System for the Port

The proposed concept includes the functions specific to a monitoring system as well as a response system. This solution has the following advantages:

  1. It is a global and comprehensive solution, with one system for all facilities that takes into account monitoring as well as response to deliberate acts of vandalism, sabotage or terrorist acts (security), but also the detection of non-deliberate emergency situations (safety).

  2. GMV's philosophy is based on a single, modular and scalable system that provides the following advantages:

    1. It considers from the beginning the supplemental nature of different subsystems
    2. Reduces personnel requirements
    3. Allows maximum integration and coordination of all personnel involved in port security
    4. Simplifies training and use of the system
    5. Simplifies maintenance
    6. Saves on design costs
    7. Allows the step by step acquisition of the system

  3. Considers the reusability of all applicable elements available in current facilities so that they are always in operating condition, adequately equipped and not outdated. This substantially reduces system costs without diminishing overall performance.

  4. It can be done in phases, whereby each new phase allows complete access to everything that was developed and implemented in previous phases.

  5. Allows for the incorporation of new sensors and process elements to meet user's budget, needs or the requirements of emergent technologies.

  6. Provides a generic solution valid for all facilities, with similar data display and managing elements for all cases.
