DATA AND INTELLIGENCE SIGNALS PROCESSING

The Intelligence Cycle provides a simplified model for conducting intelligence operations and sets the bases for terminology, tactic, technique and procedure standardization.  The Intelligence Cycle includes the following phases:

• Planning and Direction.  Intelligence is planned as part of integrated planning for potential crises in a given scenario.  Likely threat scenarios are used in this planning effort.  Information for the Operations Plan Intelligence includes an updated and adjusted threat scenario and an intelligence attachment tailored to the geographical area, nature of the threat, operational environment and assigned resources.
  
  
• Collection of Information.  During the collection phase, enemy and environment-related information is gathered.  Any raw information collected is delivered by secure means to appropriate processing and mining components.
  
  
• Data Processing and Mining.  During this phase, raw information is converted to information ready for use by intelligence analysts in the production phase.  Processing and mining actions include initial image interpretation, data conversion and correlation, document translation and decoding, and reporting results to production components.
  
  
• Information Analysis and Production.  During the analysis and production phase, all the available processed information is integrated, analyzed, evaluated and interpreted to create products meeting intelligence requirements.
  
  
• Products obtained by Intelligence are grouped into six categories:
  
  
  • Instructions and Warnings.
    
    
  • Current Intelligence.
    
    
  • General Military Intelligence.
    
    
  • Target Intelligence.
    
    
  • Scientific and Technical.
    
    
  • Counterintelligence.
    
    
• Information Dissemination and Integration.  Information is delivered to and utilized by users during this phase.
  
  
• Evaluation and Feedback.  The manner in which earlier phases were completed is evaluated during this phase for the purpose of perfecting the cycle
